    Try to maintain a constant temperature in the working environment. CCD's in scanners and
digital cameras as well as many output devices record different colour values in different temperatures. Temperature consistancy equates to device consistancy.

    Find the best type of artificial lighting, I recommend a duro-lite® True-Lite® in a standard
four foot 40 watt fluorescent tube fitting, with a distinctive unicorn twist around the tube.
The tube is white balanced and casts no colours whilst being easy on the eyes

    Those with more precise needs would create a mild darkroom type environment with the same white balanced tubes installed to ensure a constant control of environmental lighting (daylight high-noon at the flick of a switch.) Remove influencing colour articles from around your viewing plane that will affect your perception of colour. Paint or choose the surfaces in the viewing plane of the colour operator with a mid gray with a medium gloss.

    Make a monitor mask if one is not already present. Cut some mild to faint grey coloured cardboard and mount mask see image. This will control the direct and reflected light on the monitor resulting in a more precise screen image whilst reducing eye-strain.
