Open MCT in viewer software (QuarkXPress, Illustrator, Photoshop).
Use physical monitor controls to give greatest colour range.
Open Gamma Correction software (Knoll Gamma, Monitor Control Panel).
Correct monitor preview as per MCT Hardcopy.
Focus on the gray ramp first – set the balance, white and black point.
Now focus on the primary colour ramps – set the balance, white and black point.
Save setting as standard profile (for Key level, monitor and correction software).
Match the proof to a gamma of 1.4 (shadows), 1.8 (overall) and 2.2 (highlights) .
Three settings allows an operator to look closely at low, mid and high-keyed
images or image areas with greater monitor colour accuracy.
Repeat process for each application where colour accuracy is imperative.
If you decide to print on coloured paper – duplicate your settings then match
the white point in Knoll Gamma to the colour of the paper stock.
CALIBRATE RGB (SCANNERS & DIGITAL CAMERAS)
Set normal or standard condition on device.
Scan MCT.
If controls on scanner
Correct image to known values.
Save Curve (Colour) adjustments as a profile (for that device).
If controls on scanner minimal
Correct image to known values with software (Photoshop).
Save Curve (Colour) adjustments as a standard profile (for that device).
Colour corrections are best made before scanning – with the scanning software
that way the best colour data is available from the Analog to Digital Conversion.
